What it is made of, and how to look after it
Every material we use, why we chose it, what it will do over time, and how to keep it looking right.
Solid timber
We use FSC-certified oak, ash and walnut. Solid timber moves with the seasons — a panel may shrink slightly in a dry winter and take it back in summer. Keep pieces away from radiators and out of direct sun, wipe with a barely damp cloth, and re-oil an oiled surface once a year.
Upholstery
Feather-wrapped foam holds its shape but needs plumping; pure foam softens by around ten per cent in the first six months, which is normal and not a fault. Vacuum weekly with a brush head, rotate the cushions, and blot spills immediately rather than rubbing them.
Leather
Full-grain and semi-aniline leathers develop a patina and will show the marks of the animal — scars, insect bites, growth lines. That is the mark of a hide that has not been sanded and painted. Condition twice a year and keep it out of direct sunlight.
Marble and stone
Marble is porous and will etch if acid sits on it. Use coasters, wipe wine and citrus straight away, and re-seal annually with a proprietary stone sealer.
